For over 60 years, Elmer Dagenais has been an influential figure in Escanaba, MI. Financial hardships caused Elmer to drop out of school in seventh grade and join the workforce to help take care of his family. As years to follow, Elmer joined the Civilian Conservation Corps where he credited his strong work ethic. After working in the CCC, he worked briefly for General Motors. Soon after, he opened his first grocery store in Escanaba which eventually grew into Elmer's County Market. His lasting legacy will always remain for generations to come. Elmer's County Market strives to live by the values established by its founder. Elmer passed away in 2010 and will forever be missed by the store and community. Today, the store remains a family business now operating under its third generation.
